the editorial board of the ‘Students’ sociology club Diskrepancija’ journal Discrepancy would like to invite all interested students to send in their papers for the next issue. Recent events in Croatia, and the increased interest from the academic community and the public for the state of education point to the need of problematizing education in its wider social context. Due to this, the topic of the issue is:
“Education – a mirror of society?”
Some problem areas which we find important are:
- Education reform
- Autonomy of the university
- Education policies
- Education as reproduction of social inequalities
- Student demands regarding education
- Secularism and education
- Privatization of education
- Financing/transparency of education
- Informal education
- Alternative education
- Digitalization of education
- Education and the market
The journal strives to emphasize the sociological aspects of studied phenomena, but is also interdisciplinary in its character – meaning that the editorial board welcomes papers from other scientific disciplines as well. Only students enrolled in the current 2016/2017 academic year have a right to apply, regardless of their level of study (undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate). We accept solely those papers which haven’t been published in other journals. The papers can be in the form of an original scientific paper, professional paper, essay or a review article. We are also extending an invitation for submission of book reviews and review essays. Papers which focus on the issue’s theme are preferred, but those which deal with other topics related to social sciences and humanities are also accepted.
The extended deadline for submitting manuscripts is the 17th of September, 2017.
Prior to submission, we urge authors to study the formatting instructions which can be found on Diskrepancija’s website or on Hrčak:
The email address for sending the papers, as well as any questions, is:
